Biography

Siki Jo-An is a multi-talented artist born and raised at Kwa-Zakhele township in Port Elizabeth, South Africa. She started performing when she was only six years old. She is a Rhodes University Bachelor of Arts degree graduate, where she studied Classical Music and Dramatic Art studies. Siki Jo-An is known as the African Queen from The Voice South Africa, who sang "Uqongqothwane" also known as “The Click Song” by Miriam Makeba. Siki Jo-An's video went viral and her life changed ever since, receiving recognition and praises from different countries across the globe.

Siki Jo-An's music style is influenced by her theatre background and her upbringing in the dusty streets of Kwa-Zakhele Township, where there is a strong Xhosa culture. She draws inspiration from icons she grew up listening to—Miriam Makeba, Brenda Fassie, and Sibongile Khumalo. She describes her style of music as African Soulful Music. Siki Jo-An is a classically trained singer who can perform all genres, with a powerful vocal range and a unique tone she can manipulate with refined technique. She plays guitar, piano, djembe, and Uhadi.

In 2023, Siki Jo-An released her debut album independently. The album, titled "Chapter 30", comprises eight songs and an interlude, weaving a narrative of the singer's life at 30. This album of original compositions drew inspiration from love, relationships, township life, and her Xhosa culture. For this project, she worked with renowned producers such as the award-winning Mjakes Thebe, James Frank Bassingthwaighte, and Siyabonga Kitie Mkhize.

Since her experience on The Voice South Africa, Siki Jo-An has been making significant strides in the music industry. She has cemented her position as an African singer, rubbing shoulders with the late Ricky Rick, Zahara, Riana Nel, Ringo Madlingozi, Zwai Bala, Judith Sephuma, Lira, Vusi Nova, J Something, Lady Zamar, Lindelani Mkhize, Nelisiwe Sibiya, Unathi Nkayi, and Anele Mdoda, just to name a few. She has done major productions such as RMB Starlight Classics, Afrikaans is Groot, and performed at the Miss South Africa Finale in 2023. She also sang New Zealand’s national anthem during a rugby game with the Springboks in 2024. Siki Jo-An recently completed a world cruise contract with Silversea Cruises, performing across Australia, New Zealand, Asia, and North America. She is now an international brand, with global audiences, having curated her own tours in South Africa, Tanzania, Rwanda, Mozambique, and Brazil, promoting African music.

She has worked as a teacher, sharing her music knowledge as a vocal coach and school teacher—teaching arts, music, drama, directing choirs and marimba bands, and organizing school events. She was a Creative Arts Teacher at Future Nation Schools and Head of Music and Culture at Curro Waterfall. Some of her corporate bookings include performances for Old Mutual, First National Bank, Standard Bank, Nedbank, Democratic Alliance, KFC, Dimension Data, Prime Media, Global Teachers Institute, Jakes Gerwell Fellowship, PWC, Peregrine Capital, Coca-Cola, BMW, Aurum, Exxaro, and Curro Holdings.

Siki Jo-An is a triple threat—she sings, acts, and dances. Her theatre experience includes various stage productions performed at the National Arts Festival in Grahamstown, the Baxter Theatre, and the former Opera House (now Mandela Bay Theatre). She recently appeared on Muvhango as a celebrity actress. With a strong social media following, she is professional, well-trained, and incredibly talented. Her accolades include work as a freelance journalist for Daily Sun, a radio presenter and producer at Rhodes Music Radio and Radio Grahamstown—there is nothing she cannot do.

As an extension of her multifaceted career, Siki Jo-An is adored for her personality, sense of Ubuntu, and authenticity—reflected in her presentation, African-inspired hairstyles, costumes, and headwraps. Her consistent style has led to collaborations with local brands like My African Dream and Urban Zulu.
